Terms of service

1. Agreement

These terms are an agreement between you and Aaron Jung (“we” or “us”), which runs Lofty Grove SHSAT. A parent or legal guardian accepts these terms for themselves and for their child when they create an account. If you do not agree, do not use the app. Our privacy policy explains how we handle information.

2. What the app is

Lofty Grove SHSAT is a self-study app for the SHSAT. It has lessons, practice questions with explanations, full-length practice tests, a study plan, and review. It is not live tutoring, and it is not a school.

The app is free during the launch. We do not take payments. If we ever offer paid features, we will tell parents first, and nothing will be charged without a parent’s agreement.

We may add, change, or remove features, and the app may sometimes be unavailable.

3. Not affiliated with the NYC Department of Education

The SHSAT is given by the New York City Department of Education (DOE). Lofty Grove SHSAT is independent test preparation. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the DOE or the specialized high schools. School names and test names belong to their owners. Some practice tests are adapted from past SHSAT forms that the DOE published; those materials belong to their owners.

For official test dates, registration, and rules, use the DOE’s own information.

4. Scores are estimates

Scores from our full-length practice tests are estimates from a statistical model. They are not official SHSAT scores and may differ from a real test result. Past school cutoff scores are past results, not promises for future years. We do not guarantee any score, improvement, or admission to any school.

5. Accounts

6. Fair use

Please use the app for your own study. Do not:

We may pause or close an account that breaks these rules. We will tell the parent why when we can.

7. Our content

The app, its lessons, questions, explanations, and pictures belong to us or to the people who licensed them to us. You may use them for personal study while you have an account. We check our questions carefully, but mistakes can happen. If you find one, use Report an issue on the question or email us.

8. No warranty

We provide the app “as is” and “as available.” To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that the app will be error-free, always available, or right for a particular purpose.

9. Limit of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, such as a test result or an admission decision. Because the app is free, our total responsibility for any claim is limited to $0, or the lowest amount the law allows.

10. Ending your use

You can stop using the app and delete the account at any time in Settings. We may stop offering the app; if we do, we will try to tell parents first so they can download their child’s data.

11. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. For important changes, we will email the parent. If you keep using the app after a change, the new terms apply.

12. Law

These terms follow the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.

13. Contact
